01

Authors

Authors are responsible for accurate research, original writing, fair representation of sources, prompt disclosure of conflicts and cooperation with corrections. Author pages should describe relevant experience and link to published work.

02

Editors

Editors challenge unsupported claims, improve clarity and context, check sourcing and decide whether a story meets Barnakle’s standards. Editors remain responsible for final publication decisions.

03

Expert reviewers

Expert review is requested when subject complexity or potential harm warrants it. Reviewers are selected for relevant knowledge and asked to evaluate accuracy, balance and important omissions. Review does not mean the reviewer endorses every editorial choice.

04

Conflicts and independence

Contributors must disclose financial, professional, academic or personal interests that could reasonably affect their work. Barnakle may add a disclosure, assign another reviewer or decline the contribution.

05

Guest contributions

Guest essays and commentary are labelled and edited to Barnakle standards. Opinion is distinguished from reported fact. Payment or an organisational affiliation is disclosed when relevant.
