Privacy Policy

This policy explains the categories of information Barnakle may collect, why it is used, when it may be shared and the choices available to visitors.

Review before publishing: update this policy when analytics, advertising, newsletter, forms, hosting or payment providers are selected. A website policy must match the technology actually in use.
01

Information you provide

Barnakle may receive information you submit through contact, correction, newsletter, account or contributor forms, such as your name, email address, message, preferences and any files you choose to provide.

02

Information collected automatically

Our hosting, security and analytics systems may process IP address, device and browser information, approximate location, referring pages, pages viewed, timestamps, diagnostic logs and cookie or similar identifiers. The exact tools in use should be reflected in the site’s consent notice.

03

Why information is used

  • Provide, secure and improve the website.
  • Respond to questions, corrections and rights requests.
  • Deliver newsletters or services a person requests.
  • Measure content performance and diagnose problems.
  • Prevent abuse, fraud and security incidents.
  • Meet legal obligations and enforce site terms.
05

Service providers and disclosure

Information may be processed by vendors supporting hosting, security, analytics, email delivery, forms and other site operations under appropriate arrangements. It may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a legitimate organisational transaction.

06

International processing and retention

Providers may process information outside your province or country, where different laws may apply. Barnakle retains information only as long as reasonably necessary for the stated purpose, legal requirements, dispute resolution and security.

07

Your rights

Depending on location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, withdrawal of consent or information about processing. Submit a request through our contact page. We may need to verify identity proportionately.

08

Children’s privacy

Barnakle is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children under 13 without appropriate authorisation. A parent or guardian may contact us about a concern.

09

Security and changes

No online system is completely secure, but Barnakle uses reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the information involved. We may update this policy as the site changes; the page’s updated date identifies the latest version.
